Is your world noisy? How about your inner thoughts—are they noisy too? Mine definitely are.
From a constantly rotating to-do list, to the always-on mental grocery list, not to mention the barrage of self-generated questions and concerns—my head is often a chaotic place. It’s like there’s always something running in the background, keeping my mind distracted and busy.
A few years ago, I realized I couldn’t keep living like that. I began a journey to truly renew, strengthen, and focus on my spiritual walk. For too long, I had simply been a person who showed up to church—maybe once a month—without actually practicing the faith that saved me.
It sounds like a simple concept: Pursue God. Try to be like Jesus. Live a life on mission. But the noise—both internal and external—can be deafening.
We’re surrounded by distractions. The cultural noise of division, the pressure of perfectionist images on social media, the race to keep up with the Joneses, the obsession with likes, shares, and followers. Then there’s the marketing telling us what to buy to be “trendy” and the increasing feelings of disconnection and isolation.
So where is God in all this noise?
He’s right beside you. Waiting patiently.
“So the Lord must wait for you to come to him so he can show you his love and compassion.
For the Lord is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for his help.”
— Isaiah 30:18 (NLT)
God isn’t distant or distracted—He is waiting for you. He wants to show you love and compassion. He wants to bring peace into your life. He’s not rushed or overwhelmed. He’s steady, faithful, and full of grace.
God is peace. And when you seek Him, He can quiet the noise.
Another One of my favorite reminders comes from the Armor of God in Ephesians:
“Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared…”
— Ephesians 6:13–15 (NLT)
Yes—peace is part of the armor. And if you search the King James Version of the Bible, the word peace appears over 400 times. That’s not a coincidence.
If God is offering peace, and He’s patiently waiting on us to come to Him, the question becomes: How do we find that peace in the middle of the chaos?
Start small.
Take a few minutes each day to connect with God. Read the Bible. Talk to Him—yes, just talk. That’s what prayer is. He hears you. He sees the chaos you’re navigating. And He can bring calm to your storm.
For me, I start each day by setting the tone. I pray for peace and joy in the chaos. I ask for wisdom and patience. I thank God for the blessing that is today. Then, I step into the whirlwind of daily life: the to-do lists, the errands, the work demands, and the many good (and noisy) things life has to offer.
But now I do it knowing I’m not alone in the noise.
God is willing and able to take on all the chaos you’re carrying. Seek Him through His Word. Build a relationship with Him by asking for forgiveness and accepting Christ as your personal Savior. Communicate through prayer. Pursue a life shaped by the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22)—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
You don’t need to have it all figured out to begin.
Start with a simple declaration of faith.
Start with a prayer.
Start with a moment of quiet.
And watch how God begins to offer you peace—even in the noise.
