I am a 42-year-old woman. I am married to a believer, and we have two children—one a teenager and the other in kindergarten.
I grew up in a lower middle-class family in India. We did not have much, but we had a sense of togetherness. I was the first Christian in my home. In the early years, I did not know much about spiritual practices, but God still protected me and guided me through His Word.
After I accepted Him, God blessed our family step by step. We did not grow quickly, but every year, God helped us move forward. A thankful heart helped me stay content with what we had. God also blessed us financially over time. When I look back today, I can see how gratitude brought peace into my heart and how God honored it.
How Thanksgiving Became Part of My Life
I accepted Christ from a different faith. When I began attending a small prayer fellowship, something touched me deeply. The believers in that group always remembered God’s goodness. They shared testimonies with joy and gratitude. Their simple, thankful lifestyle impressed me.
Because of that practice in the fellowship, I started a personal Thanksgiving time every Friday. For one to two hours, I sat in God’s presence. I thanked Him for His blessings. I thanked Him for the people He brought into my life. I listened to His Word. These weekly moments filled me with joy and strength. They became an important part of my spiritual growth.
Thanking God Even in Trials
My early Christian life had several painful moments:
-
Some relatives rejected me.
-
Many stopped inviting me to functions.
-
Some spoke harsh words.
-
A few even cursed me.
I also faced health struggles and family conflicts. These situations discouraged me. But every Friday, during my Thanksgiving time, God opened my eyes. He helped me see His goodness even in difficult moments. He taught me to praise Him not only in blessings, but also in trials.
In those times, I understood a precious truth:
My Jesus is the best God.
Whatever He gives is always the best.
He never gives “good” or “better”—only His best.
When I focused on my big God, my problems looked small. Gratitude did not remove my struggles, but it changed my heart. It helped me trust God more. It helped me stay calm and hopeful. It helped me grow stronger inside.
Through thanksgiving, I truly “tasted and saw that the Lord is good.”
What the Bible Says About a Thankful Heart
Psalm 100:4 — “Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise.”
Thanksgiving is special. It is not just an emotion—it is a doorway. It helps us enter God’s presence and brings peace into our heart.
A thankful heart:
-
increases joy
-
brings clarity
-
softens our spirit
-
makes us aware of God’s presence
An unthankful heart does the opposite. It fills us with fear, worry, and complaints. It blinds our eyes to God’s goodness.
This is why it is important to pause before God and check our heart.
Are we coming with praise?
Or are we coming with heavy burdens—without trusting Him?
God does not force us to be thankful.
He gives us the freedom to choose.
The apostle Paul said:
“I have the right to do anything, but not everything is beneficial.”
We can choose what shapes our heart.
Gratitude is always a wise choice.
It builds our faith and gives life.
The Bible also says:
1 Thessalonians 5:18 — “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
This verse helped me many times. God’s will for me was simple:
Be thankful in every situation.
Not because every situation is good,
but because God is always good.
A Thankful Heart Reflects Christ
Over the years, I have learned that a thankful heart is not automatic. It is a choice. It is a practice. It is a discipline. When we choose gratitude every day:
-
our joy grows
-
our faith becomes strong
-
our heart becomes gentle before God
As a family, we have seen how God honors gratitude. Even in seasons when we had very little, He gave us peace. And as we continued to thank Him, He blessed us financially and emotionally. He strengthened our marriage. He helped us raise our children with hope. He guided us step by step.
As we enter this season of thanksgiving, may our hearts be full—
not only for what God has done,
but for who He is.
May we enter His gates with thanksgiving.
May we walk in His courts with praise.
May we trust that our big God always does what is best.
