Family Transformed by Faith!
Hello! My name is Sophal!
I got married in 1993, and by the year 2000, I had four children. In those early years, I lacked knowledge and understanding about how to raise my children properly. I simply followed the ways I had experienced growing up. I struggled with alcoholism, smoking, and gambling. I did not show enough love to my children. I often raised my voice, used harsh words, and threatened them violently. I treated my wife the same way. This was a brief picture of my life before I became a follower of Jesus Christ.
In 2000, I came to know Jesus Christ and decided to follow Him. From 2000 to 2007, my wife and I had two more children. Although I was a believer, I still didn’t fully understand what a godly relationship between husband and wife, and between parents and children, should look like. I only knew a little about God’s Word, and I wasn’t really applying it to my life and my family. I continued to parent in the traditional way, expecting my children to take care of me and my wife when they grew up, even though I was not giving them the care they truly needed.
With six children, I faced many challenges in providing for my family. I worked very hard to make ends meet. Then my wife became ill, followed by our fourth child. Despite these hardships, those years were a turning point for my relationship with my children—especially as I began to learn to follow and depend on God. I started encouraging my children to follow Jesus, teaching them His Word and His ways. At the same time, my love for my wife grew stronger, and my relationship with my children deepened. God changed my mindset—I began supporting and encouraging them to pursue a good education, no longer expecting them to leave school to earn money for the family. This change came because I began to understand God’s Word and His love. I thank God for His grace.
Today, my relationship with my wife and children is very good. Some of my children are married, and some are studying and living far from us, but we remain in close contact regularly. We are very close as a family.
I truly thank God. My six children love one another, and they love and care for me and my wife. They love God, walk in His ways, and serve Him. I pray for them every day.
I am deeply thankful to God for transforming my life and my family.
